Spring <\/strong>started a while ago and summer <\/strong>is just around the corner. It’s the time of year when flowers <\/strong>are in full bloom<\/strong> and we can admire nature’s spectacular display. We’re lucky in Madrid, with fields of the most beautiful flowers<\/strong> and places where you can see them in large quantities, making for a peaceful setting<\/strong>. Here is the list of the best places to see flowers<\/strong> in Madrid<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Marguerite<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Marguerite <\/mark><\/strong>is usually associated <\/strong>with love <\/strong>and sorrow<\/strong>, hence the game of plucking the petal and thinking ‘He loves me, he loves me not, he loves me,…’. This flower is typical of early spring, and can be found in many places where there are patches of grass. The flowering season is very long, from March<\/strong> to September<\/strong>. If you want to find them in Madrid, go to Retiro Park<\/strong>, El Capricho<\/strong> or almost anywhere in Madrid Rio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Roses<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The rose <\/strong><\/mark>is without doubt the most iconic flower<\/strong> of all. Whether you’re giving a flower to your loved one or to your mother, it’s the one that immediately springs to mind, for its beauty<\/strong>, color<\/strong> and fragrance<\/strong>. But we’re more used to finding them at the florist’s than in the wild. Fortunately, there are several beautiful rose gardens<\/strong> in Madrid<\/strong> where you can enjoy them to the full. You can visit the one in the Retiro Park <\/strong>once again, or the one in the Parque del Oeste<\/strong>, which is perhaps more abundant. The latter was awarded<\/strong> the Garden Excellence prize by the World Federation of Rose Societies<\/strong> in 2006<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lavender<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Brihuega<\/strong> is home to Spain’s most beautiful and famous lavender fields<\/strong><\/mark>. We’ve talked about it before, but this field is well worth talking about again. Lavender blooms<\/strong> in summer<\/strong>, and the ideal time to contemplate this magnificent landscape is from late June<\/strong> to mid-July<\/strong>. These lavender fields cover vast expanses of land, creating a magnificent purple landscape<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In town, you’ll find lavender everywhere, on balconies, streets and doorways. There’s even a market selling lavender perfumes, soaps and cookies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As its name suggests, this flower is associated<\/strong> with the sun<\/strong>. Auxin<\/strong>, a plant hormone, produces the phenomenon that gives the impression that the flower follows the sun and looks at it, but this phenomenon stops when it reaches maturity. Although not found directly in the capital, sunflower fields can also be found in Brihuega<\/strong>, Altos Campos de G\u00f3mara <\/strong>and Toledo’s Castillo de Malpica del Tajo<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Its flowering period starts later than other flowers, from late summer<\/strong>, mid-August<\/strong>, to early autumn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tulip<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For those who know or are interested in flower symbolism<\/strong>, the red tulip<\/mark><\/strong>, like the rose of the same color, is a symbol<\/strong> of passion<\/strong> and intense love<\/strong>. It’s the ideal flower for Valentine’s Day<\/strong>, or for making a grand declaration of love<\/strong>. The white tulip, on the other hand, represents sincere<\/strong>, pure<\/strong> and idealistic love<\/strong>. The ones you can find in Madrid can be found in the<\/strong> Royal Botanical Garden<\/strong>, which boasts over 17,000<\/strong> of these flowers in its flowerbeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Poppy<\/mark><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This flower, which blooms at altitudes of up to 1700m<\/strong>, has become a traditional symbol<\/strong> of freedom<\/strong> and adaptability<\/strong> and willpower<\/strong>. The poppy <\/mark><\/strong>generally blooms twice a year<\/strong>, once from April to May<\/strong> and again from September to October<\/strong>. The biggest and most beautiful poppies you’ll see near Madrid are to be found near Toledo, in Polan.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When we think of cacti<\/strong><\/mark>, we obviously think of their great resilience<\/strong> and low maintenance<\/strong>. They’re the ideal gift for someone who doesn’t know how to look after plants. It’s often forgotten that cacti flower<\/mark> <\/strong>and offer beautiful blooms<\/strong>. They generally flower at the hottest time of the summer<\/strong>. The best place to see them is Desert City<\/strong>, which boasts a magnificent botanical garden filled with cacti<\/strong><\/mark>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
