Wait a second, isn’t it supposed to say “wine and tapas”?

You may be surprised, but according to various sources, Spain is among the top 5 beer consumers in the world. And it’s not just that we like to drink, we have really good beers!

Join us on this fascinating tour where you will experience traditional tapas as an authentic Madrileño, in the places where the locals go.

Like any great capital city, Madrid hides incredible places off the beaten tourist track, where locals gather to keep their traditions alive, such as enjoying delicious tapas and having fun with friends.

Now, let’s be honest: these days it’s hard to find a truly “tourist-free” place, thanks to TikTok! But that’s also a great indicator of the quality and charm of these local places.

Malasaña and Chueca fit this description perfectly. These two neighborhoods have been at the heart of key historical moments, witnessing fascinating events that shaped Madrid’s history. On this Beer and Tapas Tour, we’ll tell you everything from the heroic story of a young girl during the War of Independence that gave a neighborhood its name, to a glimpse of a church known as “The Sistine Chapel of Madrid”. You’ll also hear about the Franco regime, the cultural revolution that followed and, of course, enjoy delicious traditional tapas along the way.

Our goal is to offer you an unforgettable gastronomic and cultural experience, but we also want to get to know you and spend a fantastic time together in this beautiful city. That’s why our groups are small, so that everyone feels part of the team!

Itinerary

Meeting Point

Gran Vía, 44, Centro, 28013 Madrid – In front of the “Five Guys” restaurant with a sign that says “TOUR&FRIENDS”.

San Antonio de los Alemanes Church

Our first stop is one of the most beautiful churches in Madrid, one that even most locals don’t know about. Although small, it boasts an impressive vaulted ceiling painted by the great Italian artist Luca Giordano. It is so impressive that some call it the Sistine Chapel of Madrid. We will also provide a brief introduction to key events in Spanish history and how they shaped Madrid in the 20th century. Then, we will head to our first tapas stop.

Dos de Mayo Square

This square, our second stop, is considered the heart of the neighborhood. Here, we will reveal the history behind its name and its importance as the birthplace of the cultural revolution that liberated society after 36 years under Franco’s dictatorship. This movement found its greatest expression in art, music and sexuality. It will also be another tapas stop.

Madrid History Museum

This is a quick stop to appreciate the unique Spanish “churrigueresque” architectural style on the beautiful façade of the Museo de Historia de Madrid.

Madrid School of Architecture

This is a quick stop to talk about this unique, modern building in the heart of a traditional neighborhood. We will also share its dark past, which contrasts with the educational and friendly atmosphere it fosters today.

Chueca Square

This is our last stop, where we will talk about the incredible transformation of this neighborhood and the importance of the LGBTQ+ community in making it one of the most vibrant places in Madrid. We will also enjoy our last drink in a traditional bar.
